About Me
Roofing Encyclopaedia: Tips For Repair, Maintenance And Replacement

Hello there! I'm glad you dropped by. As the manager of a body corporate agency, I deal with a range of problems every day. Unwanted pests and burst drains are everyday occurrences. Sometimes, there are more unusual situations. Once, I had to deal with a tenant who was keeping a horse in his fourth-story unit! The most common problems I face are related to roofs as poorly-maintained roofs can cause leaks, fires and flying debris. Since I am always encouraging body corporates to maintain, repair or replace roofs before major hassles occur, I have become a bit of a roofing encyclopaedia. I can speak with reasonable knowledge about the best materials, techniques and tradespeople in the industry. I thought others out there might be seeking information about roofing repairs and benefit from my know-how. I hope these entries prove helpful. May you always stay dry!

The decision to have plasterboards installed on the residential ceiling area is associated with several advantages. Top on the list of these advantages is that ceiling plasterboards can help to reduce noise transmission in affected interior spaces.

Homeowners can save on the cost of plasterboard installation by undertaking this activity on their own. This article discusses a few accessories that a DIY homeowner should remember to purchase alongside the ceiling plasterboards.

Plasterboard Fasteners

Fasteners are perhaps the most important accessories that should be bought alongside the boards themselves. Fasteners are often used to attach plasterboards onto a wooden frame on residential ceiling areas.

Nails and screws are among the most common type of fastener used with residential plasterboards. There are different types of plasterboard nails and screws to choose from, each with distinct advantages associated with its use.

Cement-coated smooth nails have a resin coating that gives the nails a greater ability to bear the weight of plasterboard. Coarse plasterboard screws are designed with large sized threads for a greater holding power. Cupped head nails are easy to counter-sink because they have small, rounded heads. Fine plasterboard screws are preferred for their sharp points, which allow them to penetrate through plasterboards with greater ease.

Plasterboard Installation Tools

DIY plasterboard installation cannot be done in the absence of relevant equipment.

DIY homeowners are advised to purchase (or lease) a drywall hammer for the installation of ceiling plasterboards. A drywall hammer will help to create a smooth finish on the newly-installed plasterboard. Drywall hammers are different from traditional hammers in the sense that they have rounded heads. This means that they can be used to countersink nails and similar fasteners into plasterboard with minimal risk of causing damage to plasterboards.

DIY homeowners who settle for screws as their plasterboard fasteners of choice would need to acquire or lease a screw gun. Cordless, electric screw guns are preferred for their ease of portability. They're also preferred over electric drills because their nosepieces are adjustable. This allows the person undertaking plasterboard installation to regulate the depth to which plasterboard screws are driven for increased accuracy.

Plasterboard Adhesives

Adhesive materials are often used alongside nails, screws and other plasterboard fasteners. Plasterboard adhesives are often used to glue down the central portion of plasterboard, so that nails and/ or screws are left to hold edges of the board.

The above-discussed plasterboard accessories are a must-have for a homeowner looking to undertake DIY plasterboard installation.
